Happy Valentine's Day! Today is one of my favorite days of the year, so filled with love. I am a Pisces so I have alway been a romantic fool. Today I am hosting a fabulous giveaway from a new friend Kathy and one of my favorite blogs. She is living her dream out in B.C. and has the best Vlogs out there too. She has stolen my heart by teaching me how to make the perfect breve. She recently published an amazing E book, which I happened purchase on the first day it was released. The book offers tips on how to create more mama bliss, which is something a lot of mamas often forget about. One suggestion is to make a list of things that make you feel blissful and fill your soul up. Here is my list of top 10 things that create my mama bliss:

1. Enjoying a freshly made breve and reading my favorite blogs.
2. A warm bath filled with essential oils.
3. Knitting by the fire.
4. Girls night out.
5. Talking to my best friend on the phone.( It is often therapy time :))
6. Taking photos
7. Yoga class
8. Fresh flowers.
9. A massage of any sort.
10. Creating something new.

Mama Panya

We sadly lost one of our hens last evening to a hawk. I have saved this hen a couple times in the past from different animals, but I guess it was just her time. She was from our original flock we got last Spring and Violet named her after one of her favorite books at the time. She was a great egg producer and had the most beautiful black and white feathers. We have a few of them in the house already. I am so glad I treated her to some birdseed and fresh carrots at lunchtime. We are still learning about keeping chickens. There is still much to learn and we are most likely going to buy a new coop from a man who builds them properly. We tried, but I think we need a nicer model to protect our girls. RIP Mama Panya, you will be missed, but never forgotten. There is a photo here from when she was a chick and the other from just a few days ago.

Waldorf Wednesday

Today we sculpted with this very beautiful beeswax. It smells lovely. When I first got this for the girls, we found it easy to work with right out of the packaging, but after we put it away it was hard to work with. We have a very sunny window in the kitchen. I moved the basket there the other day and let it sit in the sun. It didn't take very long for it to warm and now it is so easy to work with once again. One can make just about anything from this beeswax. We love it! Happy sculpting!

My husband was a former Chemistry and Math teacher, so this little project was his idea last week. It 's easy, inexpensive and your kiddo will love it.
1. Bring 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil.
2. Pour disolved contents into a clean mason jar.
3. Add a stick or string.
4. Place on countertop and patiently wait for 5-7 days.
5. Enjoy!

Waldorf Wednesday

Our closest Waldorf school is a long drive away. I love going there though to get inspired. I often will bring the girls for their drop in program or their seasonal fairs. I think the Waldorf style is perfect for little ones. I decided to start a more local Waldorf Community in my area and it has really taken off and has attracted some lovely mamas. We often meet on Wednesdays either a someone's home or we take a field trip. Last week we did some bread baking and the dough came out lovely. The recipe is from the Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book. I highly recommend it.

We are hoping to get some snow tonight. I never thought I would say that before. It has been so mild around here, it is so strange not to be getting a major snowfall once a week around here. We are looking forward to making a big snowman, snow ice cream, going snowshoeing around the neighborhood after a storm. Bring on the snow! We are ready!

Remember Life Can Be Lovely

I work Part-Time as a Nurse, it is the most rewarding, but far most challenging job I have ever had. I deeply feel though that one of the reasons I was put on this Earth was to help people. It takes so much energy sometimes, it can be overwhelming, but you have to remember that even though there is much hurt and pain and suffering in the world, you must try in these darkest moments to think about something in your life that is "lovely" and draw peace and strength from it.
I strive to inspire my patients and co-workers of this when it is so easy to get lost in the stress of the medical world. I had a very challenging weekend at work this week. I am tired, my energy is running low and my feet hurt, but this photo I just captured in my studio reminds me of all that is still lovely. My home, my family, the ability to spend most of my days with my girls and so, so much more. Find something in your lovely life to be grateful for today. Hope you week is off to a lovely start, Happy Monday!

Sick, but Smiling

Sorry for my absence here in blogland, but we have all been super sick. We are calling it the "Thanksgiving Day Flu". The girls both had the worst colds they had ever seen, that eventually ended in their poor little ears giving them ear infections. Despite the sickness we are still smiles, especially Miss Vintage. She never got fussy with her ear, still smiling , playing and of course lots and lots of books. I will be back Monday with a super easy, inexpensive Christmas Postcard idea. Happy Weekend!

Halloween 2011

Well, due to the surprise storm we had, trick or treating got postponed twice! We finally headed out on Halloween night and the girls had a blast! Violet work a costume from her dress up suitcase and called herself a snow fairy. Vintage wore a nice warm chicken suit that grandma found. Maybe next year we can do the group thing that I had planned. The pumpkin fairy arrived shortly after midnight and left Violet a purse full of coins.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

What a fun afternoon we had the other day. We took full advantage of a 70 degree day in October and went to a small park for a scavenger hunt. I purchased the card set from Mama Roots on Etsy awhile back. I am so glad we got to finally use it. It was a hit with the girls!

Fall in New England is a magical time of year. We are spending most of weekends outdoors at local Pow Wows and Fall Fairs. We have had some warm weather the last couple of days, so we went for a late night swim last night. We know what the colder weather can bring, so outside it is for as long as we can.

Organizing and Fall Rhythm

This Fall we are trying a new approach to life and staying organized. It really is amazing how much one can get done if you stick to some sort of rhythm. I used to find myself doing laundry at 1 am. That just was just crazy. There are also so many things I want to do with my little ones so I thought this weekly rhythm plan made sense. Also I saw this great idea from this lovely blogger about organizing your books by color. I did this the other day and I love it! I also went through our learning shelf and organized that as well. Happy 4th Birthday Violet! A Shirley Temple Tea Party

My little bird turned 4 yesterday. She woke up to a room full of balloons from the birthday fairy and was so excited to be turning four. It was a beautiful day at home. We decided on a Shirley Temple themed party because Violet adores Shirley Temple. She loves to sing and dance and some even say she looks like that famous little child star with her cute little cheeks and those ringlets. It was a sweet little homemade party. We played outdoors for a bit with Violet's favorite thing (Playdough). We had a bubble station, chalk station and we also set up a photo booth. It was simple and fun! Happy Birthday Violet! I love you!

This photo captures the best way I can explain my trip. Aside from getting seasick on the way over, the time spent there was filled with such love and happiness. In such a short time, I did so much for me that I feel totally rested and ready to go. Dancing, uninterrupted meals, beachcombing, walking freely down the town exploring whatever I wanted, yoga on the beach and even a swim in the beautiful ocean. Thanks to Brad and MJ for having me!

It was so hot today we felt like having an indoor picnic and had pizza delivered. After Violet wanted to build a Fairy Village. She insisted on steps and a seesaw. I think it came out lovely. Happy Monday!

Beach days with the babes

We are so lucky to live near beautiful beaches. We love going to the beach most late afternoons. It is the perfect time with little ones and a very fair skinned husband. Violet has been decorating sandcastles, Vintage has been eating sand and chasing seagulls. I comb the beach for shells and seaglass and Brian loves finding hidden treasures with his metal detector. I am just waiting for the day for him to find me some jewelry. Yesterday though he settled on two silver dollars.

I am so fortunate to be able to bring our babies to work. Most of my days are spent running a Gymnastics & Circus Arts School. My 3 year old loves being there learning tricks, I would have loved to have this environment growing up. What a dream! My little Vintage turned one and we celebrate with a small "Carnival" party at home with our closest friends and family. A special celebration for a precious little girl. We did a photo booth which was a hit. I came across a really talented face painter and I just had to have her come. One of our teachers from the gym dressed up as a Fortune Teller. We had hula hooping and cotton candy of course! Vintage was more into her polka dotted balloon than her cake. Oh well! I must say...I think Violet had the most fun. Happy 1st Birthday sweet Vintage!

Airstream Life

Well as I have sadly found out...not everyone loves Vintage. Our Airstream has returned home for the Summer for a few reasons:
1. A toddler that is very often afraid of bugs.
2. A crawling infant.
3. Not finding the right family oriented campground.

So the Airstream will be residing at the top of our driveway until further notice. I am hoping to host a few get togethers with girlfriends to do Art Nights. And maybe even host an outdoor movie. Our neighbors are a very cool diverse group, however our newest neighbor caught me off guard the other day and asked if we were planning on leaving the Airstream where it currently was. She said and I quote, "well I am sure it looks all cute in the inside, but it really is not the best thing to look at from my house." The only thing I could say was ..."Oh well." I think this would be a great blog feature, so feel free to share a link of what is growing in your garden. I would love to see. This week the Peonies blossomed. They were gorgeous. I think I would like to add a few more in the front garden. They were short lived because we got a ton of rain over the weekend. I am glad I got some photos. We also got our first roses, the lavender is in full bloom too. I just love this time of year.

She is getting cuter and cuter each month. And much more active. She is crawling so fast now and starting to creep up off of her knees. She can stand alone for a couple of seconds. She loves drinking water now and absolutely loves chicken!!!! We also have given her her first taste of watermelon, avocado, black beans...she is loving the food thing. Planning the big event for the end of the month. I finally made up her song. I made Violet her own song right after she was born, so now Vintage will have her own too. I will share them in another post.

Garden Shots 2011

The lilacs were beautiful this year, the peonies are about ready to bloom and I just saw our first rose bloom. My perennial garden looks so full this year. Violet and I planted a sunflower garden the other day. We have lettuce ready to pick, the other vegetables will be planted over the next few days. Lots of tomatoes, cucumbers ( pickling ones too) eggplant, squash, peppers and zucchini. I want to also find a spot for onions, potatos and carrots. We also planted 8 blueberry bushes. I planted garlic and asparagus, but I don't think we will be able to harvest them until next year. Lot's of dahlia bulbs and gladiolus went into the ground too. My neighbor's wisteria was amazing this year...It falls right into our yard and is the perfect shade when Violet is using her play kitchen. I think I am going to get a few flats of annuals to add a splash of color in between all the perennials. What is you garden growing this year?

I miss you MOM!

This is my first year as a mother of two. Another baby, another heart living out of my body. A new love to care for, dream about, watch over. I love being a mother and I knew my life would not be complete without having children. It has been the most satisfying, yet challenging job I have ever had and I know the hardest thing I will ever do. Although, my mom never had the chance to meet my girls or guide me about becoming a mother, in her own way she was able to teach me some important lessons before she passed away. There are three things that stand out. You have to have fun, you have to sacrifice and you have to love unconditionally. I am blessed to have an amazing family with great role models in my life. My Auntie Linda, my Mother In law have been tremendous supports. And my husband.........my strongest support. Thanks for the surprise flowers and giving me some "me" time that I desperately needed and most of all thank you to my little blessings Violet and Vintage. Thank you for teaching me how to be a good mama everyday. I love you with all my heart and soul.

Vintage 9 months

My little babe is nine months. She has started to crawl and is now trying to stand. She is into EVERYTHING. Baby gates are up, cabinets secured. She is one active sweet little wonder. She has started eating yogurt and is very into feeding herself. She just discovered frozen blueberries and LOVES them. It is so fun watching her hit all of her milestones. Even though it is a busy stage, it is so enjoyable watching her discover new bits of the world everyday.

My dad is the greatest. My hero. My inspiration. I just love this photo I snapped of him in his newly decorated house on his birthday. Papou with all his 5 granddaughters. My mother always said she wanted us to have girls. I know they are a blessing from her. I hope I am able to ski black diamonds like he does at his age. He really is the best Dad and Papou to me and my girls. I am so glad they get to see him often. I wish I told him more how much I love him and how thankful I am that he is my dad. He is really like a celebrity in our little hometown. Everyone loves him and knows what a great guy he is. The only thing missing here is a grandson........not sure if that's in the cards...we shall have to see. Happy Monday!

Florida Warm Up Part Four- Greatness

The main reason we booked this trip to Florida was to bring the baby down to meet her Great Grandmother. She is such a fun lady to hang out with. The girls had a great time hanging out with their Great Grandma Millie. We are so fortunate to be able to facilitate making these treasured memories for our girls.

Florida Warm Up Part Three- Let's go to the Zoo!

The Miami Zoo....oh what an amazing place! We spent the entire day there and it was awesome. My favorite thing about this zoo is that is it one of the few zoo's that doesn't feel like a zoo. The animals are in very natural habitats. The areas are so tropical and beautiful. If you are ever in Miami with children you must take them to the Zoo. ( Tip: Rent the little bicycles you can ride around in....we will be doing that next time)

Florida Warm Up Part Two- Shell Museum

If you are ever in Sanibel a must stop is their Shell Museum. On our first day in Florida was a little chilly 66 degrees, so we thought this would be the perfect adventure. We had been to Sanibel before, but never to the Shell Museum. It went well. There was a learning area for the kids. Tons of beautiful shell and my favorite Sailor Valentines. After the museum we went to find a local place to eat. We found the Lazy Flamingo restaurant. It was decent, but fairly overpriced. Later we found a great coffee joint Sanibel Bean that also served sandwiches and it was very kid friendly. We will go there next time for lunch when we on the island. We headed to Lighthouse Beach to go shelling. We didn't find anything too exotic, but Violet did pack up a container of shell, flowers and sand to make her very own Mermaid Village back at the house. She played with that the entire week!

Florida Warm Up Part One

Wow! What a great time we had. We spent the majority of our time in Ft.Meyers. Our family has a home there with a beautiful pool and hot tub. The house is also about 20 minutes from Sanibel Island, which is one of my favorite places in Florida. Another treasure there is a local shop that sells the best Orange Juice. There is even a sampling station. We drank it nearly everyday. We did so much on this trip, that I will be blogging about it over the next few days. Enjoy! We sure did!

8 months old

My little babe is 8 months old today! She is getting cuter and cuter and her personality is now really coming out. She is fearless and brave, but cuddly and sweet. She is getting 3 more teeth and is so so so close to crawling. She is still nursing and co-sleeping, but she is now having sometime in her crib as well. She has been trying lots of new foods, pears, mango, oatmeal, peas, carrots, peaches...she does not like green beans. She is growing so fast, but I am trying to be so present and remember to slow down and enjoy this special time. Vintage is wearing a thrifted vintage dress, a handmade crocheted sweater from our sweet neighbor, trumpette tights and her cross from her Christening. I will do a separate post on her Christening Day, I am still going through all the photos. Happy Wednesday!

Happy Birthday to me!!!

As many of you may know, I just had a birthday! Unfortunately I had a major cold, so I wasn't feeling my best. We did manage to go out for a nice breakfast, visit a greenhouse
( which feels wonderful in the middle of Winter) and had a nice visit from my dad that night. He brought me to get some much needed soup and came over to play with the girls. Brian made me this sweet little terrarium collection for my kitchen window. I just love it! I have always loved succulents, but now I love them even more. There are also a few african violets and an air plant there as well. I treated myself to a hot stone massage a couple days after my birthday. If you have never had one, it is such an amazing massage. I really need to put massage into our monthly budget, they are so needed and so good for the soul.In honor of my birthday, I will announce a sweet giveaway soon! What do you think of my new window? I got this idea from Gardenmama and I am absolutely in love. This craft is so easy and so fun to do and the result is gorgeous. You simply need two cake pans, some yarn and then whatever decorations for the inside, we used rose petals we had around the house, but you could use birdseed or leaves or other flowers. We hung them on our front porch. I think we have a new winter tradition. Give it a try while the weather is COLD!!
